Product Description

WHAT IS PRESSURE SWING ADSORPTION (PSA) TECHNOLOGY ?

The PSA process cycle consists of two key mechanisms:

-Pressurisation/adsorption
-Depressurisation/desorption Compressed air

Alternately pressurises each of two identical adsorber beds. Beginning at a point in the cycle where one adsorber bed (A) is being pressurised and the other adsorber bed (B) is undergoing depressurisation, the description of the PSA process cycle is as follows:

As compressed air enters adsorber bed A, mois- ture, oxygen, and carbon dioxide are adsorbed.
After operating pressure is reached, nitrogen product flows from adsorber bed A into a nitro- gen product receiver prior to entering the pro- duct piping. Simultaneously, adsorber bed B is depressurised to atmospheric pressure.

Upon completion of nitrogen production from adsorber bed A, an equalisation step occurs. Adsorber bed B (atmospheric pressure) is pres- surised to an intermediate pressure as the gas remaining in adsorber bed A (at operating pres- sure) flows into adsorber bed B. During this step, air is not consumed nor is product gas generated. Therefore a nitrogen receiver is applied to allow for a constant flow, purity and pressure of the nitrogen product throughout the PSA cycle.

Adsorber bed A then undergoes depressurisation and the oxygen enriched waste gas is vented to the atmosphere. Depressurisation permits the release of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor previously adsorbed during nitrogen production from adsorber bed A.

At the same time, adsorber bed B is brought to opera- ting pressure, and begins its nitrogen production portion of the cycle. Following nitrogen production, adsorber bed B undergoes equalisation and subsequent depressurisation. The cycle continues at the point where adsorber bed A undergoes pressurisation and adsorber bed B is depressurised.

While the LDH Oxygen Generator is at the heart of a nitrogen generation system, it isn't the only component of the system. Allow Gardner Denver to tailor a system to your requirements by supplying the following.

Part1. Air Compressor
Your operation most likely already has an on-site air compressor, but the demands of a nitrogen/ oxygen generator usually call for a dedicated air compressor or an upgrade to your existing compressor.

Part2. Compressed Air Dryer
The air around us is typically very wet. As a result, the compressed air coming out of an air compressor is also very wet. Before sending this compressed air into Nitrogen/Oxygen Generator unit, it will most likely need to be treated by a refrigerated dryer. This will protect the components of the Nitrogen/Oxygen Generator, especially the CMS or Zeolite beds.

Part3. Compressed Air Filtration
A properly designed nitrogen generation system includes a number of filters. These filters protect the dryer, nitrogen generator and your downstream equipment from moisture and particulate. As with the dryer, all necessary filtration can be included on a nitrogen system skid.

Part4. Buffer & Storage Tanks
To ensure a steady supply of nitrogen into your system, storage tanks are needed both in front of and behind the Nitrogen/Oxygen Generator unit. These tanks can also typically be installed on the nitrogen generation skid.

Part5. Booster Compressor
If required by a process needs to be at a higher PSI than what comes out of the nitrogen generator. In those cases, a high pressure booster compressor should be installed in the compressed air system after the nitrogen generator.
