High purity 99.99% food packaging petrochemical nitrogen generator
PSA Nitrogen Generator full name: Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA).
PSA is a new gas separation technology, which has been developed rapidly in foreign countries since the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its principle is to separate the gas mixture by the difference of the "adsorption" performance of different gas molecules by molecular sieve. It takes air as raw material. The nitrogen and oxygen in the air are separated by the selective adsorption of nitrogen and oxygen with a high efficiency and high selection of solid adsorbent.
High purity 99.99% food packaging petrochemical nitrogen generator
Currently, carbon molecular sieves (CMS) and zeolite molecular sieves (ZMS) are widely used in nitrogen and oxygen generation. Molecular sieves separate oxygen and nitrogen primarily based on the differing diffusion rates of these two gases on the sieve surface.
CMS is a carbon-based adsorbent that exhibits characteristics of both activated carbon and molecular sieves. It consists of tiny micropores with sizes ranging from 0.3 nm to 1 nm. Gases with smaller molecular diameters (e.g., oxygen) diffuse faster and more extensively into the CMS solid phase, leaving nitrogen enriched in the gas phase. After a certain period, the CMS reaches adsorption equilibrium for oxygen. Leveraging CMS's characteristic of adsorbing different gases differently under varying pressures, the system reduces pressure to desorb the adsorbed oxygen from the CMS-a process called regeneration. Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) systems typically use two parallel towers, which alternate between pressurized adsorption and depressurized regeneration to produce a continuous nitrogen flow.
The method that uses air as feedstock, CMS as the adsorbent, and applies the PSA principle to separate oxygen and nitrogen (via CMS's selective adsorption of the two gases) is commonly referred to as PSA nitrogen generation. This nitrogen generation technology developed rapidly in the 1970s.
Compared with traditional nitrogen generation methods, it offers distinct advantages: simple process, high automation, rapid gas production (15-30 minutes), low energy consumption, wide adjustability of product purity to meet user requirements, easy operation and maintenance, low operating costs, and good equipment adaptability. It is highly competitive in nitrogen generation equipment with a capacity of 1,000 Nm³/h or less. As a result, PSA has gained increasing popularity among small and medium-sized nitrogen users and has become their preferred choice.

Why choose PSA nitrogen generator ?
High nitrogen purity: PSA nitrogen generators produce ultra-high purity nitrogen, up to 99.9995%, using carbon molecular sieve technology, a level unattainable by membrane systems. They are available with or without internal compressors.
Low operating costs: Replacing outdated air separation plants with PSA nitrogen generators can reduce production costs by more than 50%. The cost of nitrogen generated is significantly lower than that of bottled or liquefied nitrogen.
Environmental benefits: Generating nitrogen gas is a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient method. Compared to cryogenic air separation and the transportation of liquid nitrogen, PSA generators consume less energy and produce fewer greenhouse gases.

PSA Nitrogen Generator: Technological Process Brief
Air first passes through an air filter to remove dust and mechanical impurities, then enters an air compressor. After being compressed to the required pressure, it undergoes rigorous oil, water, and dust removal for purification-producing clean compressed air to ensure the service life of molecular sieve adsorption towers.
There are two adsorption towers filled with CMS: one operates in adsorption mode, while the other undergoes depressurization and desorption. Clean air enters the operating tower; oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water are adsorbed by the CMS, leaving nitrogen (with trace argon and oxygen) at the outlet. The desorbing tower releases adsorbed oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water from CMS pores to the atmosphere. The two towers alternate to complete oxygen-nitrogen separation and output nitrogen continuously (see Fig. 2).
PSA-generated nitrogen has a purity of 95%-99.9%. For higher purity, additional nitrogen purification equipment is required: 95%-99.9% nitrogen from the PSA unit is fed into the purification system, with a precise amount of hydrogen added via a flowmeter. Hydrogen reacts catalytically with trace oxygen in the system's deoxidation tower; the product is then cooled by a condenser to remove water (via a water separator), followed by deep drying using two alternating adsorption drying towers (one for moisture adsorption, the other for heated desorption and drainage). This yields high-purity nitrogen (up to 99.9995%).
Currently, the maximum capacity of domestic PSA nitrogen generation equipment in China is 3,000 Nm³/h.
