Mixed-refrigerant Joule-Thomson (MRJT) refrigerator at low temperature ranges driven by
single compressor with precooling is applied to liquefy nitrogen (-180ºC) for Nitrogen Liquefier
from TIPC, CAS. MRJT, a Joule-Thomson cycle based on reoccupation and multicomponent
mixed-refrigerants through optimizing various refrigerants with different boiling points
with a good match along with their respective efficient refrigeration temperature ranges,

Industrial use

In industrial production, liquid nitrogen obtained by compressed liquid air fractionation can be used as deep refrigerant. Because of its chemical inertia, it can directly contact with biological tissue and freeze immediately without destroying biological activity, so it can be used as deep refrigerant

(1) Rapidly freezing and transporting food, or making ice products;

(2) Research on low temperature physics;

(3) Demonstrate the low temperature state in science education. At room temperature, a soft object soaked in liquid nitrogen will be as brittle as glass;

(4) Provides the temperature required for high temperature superconductors to show superconductivity.

(5) It can be used as refrigerant to quickly freeze biological tissue to prevent tissue damage.

Liquid Nitrogen Plant (LNP) draws out Nitrogen gas from the atmospheric air and then liquefies it with the help of Cryo cooler.

Working principle of Liquid Nitrogen Plant

In a Liquid Nitrogen plant, the atmospheric air is first compressed to 7 bar pressure into compressor. This high temperature compressed air is then cooled in the external refrigeration system. Then, the cooled compressed air is passed through moisture separator to trap the moisture from the air. This dry compressed air is then passed through a bed of carbon molecular sieves where Nitrogen and Oxygen are separated from the air. Separated Nitrogen is then allowed to get through Cryo cooler which cools the gaseous Nitrogen to a liquid state at the boiling point of Nitrogen (77.2 Kelvin). Finally, the Liquid Nitrogen gets collected in Dewar's vessel where it gets stored for several industrial purposes.
